Gift Weekend - 13th & 14th October 2018

We have a problem, an opportunity and a vision and we are asking you to help.

Our vision is to move from being welcoming to being inviting, to encouraging people into seeing the church as part of their life. At the most basic level that starts with bringing people into the building.

Our problem is that we are not balancing the books. We have asked for your support through stewardship and we are grateful for all the new and increased giving we have seen since May. We rent out the building as much as we can and we hold fairs, social evenings, harvest suppers, art shows and concerts but we are not closing the gap. This year we estimate we will have a budget deficit of around £15,000.

Our opportunity is to carry on doing what our predecessors did - making this a welcome and open building, open to all in our community and open to those from outside.

We want to:

  • improve our kitchen and in doing so we will make the hall and kitchen more appealing to external hirers.
  • move St Peter's Chapel downstairs so that a quiet, self-contained place of prayer is accessible to all. The current chapel space can then be used (and let) as a meeting room.
  • Decorate and clean the toilets.
  • Decorate the committee room to smarten it up and increase lettings income.

This weekend (13th and 14th October) we are holding a gift weekend. The church will be open from 8.30am - 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday with an accessible prayer space available.
Please come along at some point over the weekend and pray for the work of our church, for our mission action plan to become more inviting and for our opportunity to improve the building so that it remains open and welcoming for years to come.
If you are able to, please also give some money (if possible gift-aiding it) to help us solve a short-term need, improve what we already have and to create something new that will bring more people into our church building. Forms and envelopes will be available in church.

If you are unable to attend this weekend but would like to give a gift, then online transfers can be made to:
Account name: Merton Priory PCC (Holy Trinity)
Account Number: 00011962
Sort code: 40-52-40

Please mark any donations 'Gift Weekend' and if you are able to gift-aid it, please let us know by sending an email to Sue Karney (sue.karneyht@outlook.com).

Whatever you are able to give will help solve our problem and build towards the opportunity and vision.
