Junior Church and Songs & Stories
We are family-friendly and child-friendly and have four age-based groups in Junior Church.
Junior Church meets on every Sunday except the first in every month when there is an all-age Eucharist. We meet throughout the year except during August. We start in Church at 10.00am, at the same time as the Parish Eucharist.
Each group Leader and Assistant has materials to prepare in advance, and there are activity sheets, songs and posters to help children learn more about the Christian faith. We also do some activities together, and these occasionally are included in the main services. All groups follow the same topics, devised from the ‘Seasons of the Spirit’ publications.
Leaders and Assistants receive training and support, and are cleared using the standard DBS process laid down in Guidelines provided by the Diocese of Southwark.
Fish and Chip Heroes: Years 6, 7, 8 and 9
A group who read, debate, question, write and draw, pray, and act out the topics.
Funky Followers: Years 3, 4 and 5
A group who explore the topic through reading, discussion, prayer, art and quizzes.
Crazy Ark: Years 1 and 2
A group who chat, stick and draw while they learn and pray.
Pandas: Foundation stage: Nursery and Reception (Age 3+)
A group who sing, pray, play and learn from stories.
Songs and Stories (0-3 years)
This is a group for children aged up to 3 years during every 10.00am Sunday service. It includes a mixture of free play, story time, singing, and art/craft. Helpers undergo a DBS check in the interests of child protection. Talk to a leader about coming to Songs & Stories.
Songs & Stories supports parents/carers in attending and enjoying the service, and introducing their little ones to Holy Trinity. Parents are encouraged to stay until their child is comfortable to be left, and they are comfortable to leave them! Children can be dropped off after the ‘welcome’ and collected before communion. Some parents drop their children off for the duration, others use it more as a temporary outlet for their child at certain times during the service. We ask parents to sit close to the Songs & Stories room so we can find them easily if their child needs them.
