Music: singers and musicians

Holy Trinity Singers and Instrumentalists

Holy Trinity Choir, July 2009

Music plays a key role in the life and worship of Holy Trinity. We explore and include a wide variety of musical styles in both our morning and evening services.

We aim to make use of the large breadth of music available, by singing traditional hymns, anthems, worship songs, chants and songs from the world church.

There is a small group of singers, who rehearse every Thursday evening for an hour, but we are always on the lookout for new members. We are aware that many people cannot make this regular commitment but are pleased to have extra singers/players as and when they can manage. You do not need musical expertise, just a love of singing and plenty of enthusiasm!

Musical resources in the church include a three-manual pipe organ built by Henry Jones in 1876/7, a Bechstein Grand Piano, a Yamaha keyboard and a drum-kit. We like to make appropriate use of all of these at different times. There is a small band of instrumentalists, of various ages and abilities, who now play regularly at All Age services, and occasionally at other times.

Singing and making music is a wonderful way of bringing people together to express praise and thanks to God, through joy and through sorrow. If you are interested in singing and/or playing an instrument at Holy Trinity please contact Barbara Skilton, the Director of Music, via the contacts page.

Jubilate

Jubilate chidren's choir rehearsal at Holy Trinity Church February 2009

Planet Plenty, Easter 2009

Jubilate  is our children's choir and instrumental group. It is open to all children between 6 and 14 who enjoy singing or play an instrument. There are no auditions. We rehearse for about 20 minutes every Sunday morning after the 10 am service in the choir vestry, whilst the parents are having their morning coffee. We are always looking for new singers, particularly boys, as we are not supposed to be a girls-only choir!

Alongside the choir we have instrumentalists to accompany the singers. We hope to develop the instrumental side of Jubilate for all-age services. We want to embrace all musicians, so we can find a place for a child whether they play a 'classical' instrument or drums or guitar.

Jubilate regularly performs at major services and festivals, as well as putting on bigger productions. Performances have included ‘Jonah Man Jazz’, ‘Resurrection Rock’, and fully-staged productions of ‘From Pharaoh to Freedom’ at Easter 2007 and 'Planet Plenty' at Easter 2009. 'Planet Plenty' is an entertaining musical about the environment and saving the Earth's resources, and linked with the ‘Going Green’ theme at Holy Trinity in Lent 2009.

We have a lot of fun in rehearsals as well making an important contribution to the worship at Holy Trinity through music-making. Music is a great way of working together and I have seen the youngest members of Jubilate grow in confidence and musical ability and they have a chance to sing with the older ones. If you think your child would be interested in joining us, please come and talk to me.
